I love Gillian Anderson and I know she went through something beyond Hell in her early career ... but I hate listening to her hate on XFiles and on herself in that role so much.
I understand WHY she does it and I understand what it means for her and why she kind of has to hate it and why she can't deeply appreciate it ... especially when it's been absolutely awful for her ... beyond awful from minute one.
I get tired of how much she hates it and how much she rags on it as if it has no value.
I tend to dislike results focused people. I don't get along with people who have a rigid viewpoint of what it means to succeed and a zero value outlook on how they came to be.
I am performance minded so I focus on everything that I did to get where I am. I see the PROCESS of all that as a part of several important steps of development. Life is a journey and success or failure is a result of many factors, some that are within our control and some that are not.

As much as Gillian likes to say she's "over it" and has come to "appreciate it" ... it's screamingly obvious that that's a lie.
She spends a chunk of time actually sitting there INSULTING HERSELF while she watches scenes from the pilot episode ... she talks about the entire process with so much scorn that her teeth are gnashing together even more than usual. Why does she continue to agree to even discuss it when she clearly hates it and herself at that time so much. For someone who suffered as much ABUSE as she suffered as a result of her role in that show for DECADES ... maybe she needs to heal instead of seethe.
"Watching this is so cringe" she says ...
THEN STOP AGREEING TO DO THIS STUFF.
If you can't heal, then stop torturing yourself with self inflicted abuse and admonishments about your early career.
You know what's also cringe, Gillian? Listening to you hate on yourself.
Didn't you get enough of OTHER PEOPLE doing that to you?
@walterbays if you don't know the hell Gillian went through, how she came back from it, how she was talked into going through even more Hell, came back from it, and how much abuse she suffered, you can't really understand what this is all about ...
@walterbays You kinda had to be following it from literally when the show was airing ... what she represented at that time ... what the show represented ... if you do a search online you'll find plenty of stuff about her discussing the sexism and the general hell but if you were watching it back then and we a part of the fandom its quite well known.
@thewebrecluse I'm a little out of touch. I remember her for the X Files, and thought she was great. I don't recall seeing her in anything since then. I have however been inside a movie theater during this century. ;)
@walterbays If you havent seen Gillian in anything since XFiles yes I'd say you're out of touch. If you don't know what the XFiles did to her career, if you don't know how they treated her, if you don't know, in general, what sexism has done to many women's careers especially hers ... yes I'd say you're more than a little out of touch. 👍🏾
@thewebrecluse Thanks. I found a "new" show to watch. Well, 2015 newish. I question the article's statement that powerful women in film are always resented and undermined though. Offhand these come to mind: The Blacklist, Designated Survivor, The Diplomat, Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

@walterbays If you question it, I'd say you're not only out of touch, but also very ignorant as well.
@thewebrecluse No, never heard any of it. Is there a source you'd recommend? Or better not to?
