: The moon landing was really a lot more technical than many people think, even if they're actual space race fans/nerds. Lots of shit happening, all that had to happen in the right order in the right sequences and at precisely the right times. Pretty wild stuff, really.

If I recall correctly by the time they landed that first time they had some 15 seconds, or possibly just less than a minute of fuel left. I think they had passed over a location or two. Kinda like running your gas tank down to E and looking for a gas station sign on the horizon.

My husband was on the team that built one of the instruments for Spitzer. I've heard lots about how many things have to go right for these missions to succeed!
