Ok, so Tim Pierce did a video yesterday pointing out that the 5 CAGED shapes are really just three, which I have been telling students for years (and which also opens up the minors).
I feel mildly vindicated.

@t_heislen

I just became aware of Guthrie Trapp about a month ago.

@tgraph52 Oh, Guthrie is an amazing player, and he is absolutely wedded to the five shape thing, which is fine -(hell, whatever lets you see the neck!). If you look at the three string triads up, down, and across (thanks, Tomo Fujita), you'll see the C-D and G-A forms are really extensions of one another, and that approach makes it easier to also see the minors...
but back to Guthrie - love the album he just released with Bukovac, and some of their live stuff on the You of Tube....

@t_heislen

I'm not a guitar player other than the few chords I can manage when trying to start a new song... and no, and in no, none, nada, zilch music theory... But I like to listen to Guthrie play a bit. He and Bukovac did a long interview with R Beato a while back and that's the first I had ever heard of either of the,

I got that LP with him and TB... It's very good.
