Ok, so Tim Pierce did a video yesterday pointing out that the 5 CAGED shapes are really just three, which I have been telling students for years (and which also opens up the minors).
I feel mildly vindicated.

@tgraph52 Oh, Guthrie is an amazing player, and he is absolutely wedded to the five shape thing, which is fine -(hell, whatever lets you see the neck!). If you look at the three string triads up, down, and across (thanks, Tomo Fujita), you'll see the C-D and G-A forms are really extensions of one another, and that approach makes it easier to also see the minors...
but back to Guthrie - love the album he just released with Bukovac, and some of their live stuff on the You of Tube....
