There is neither shame nor pride in blocking people on CoSo. It's just a tool to help each of us curate our own attention.
@sumpnlikefaith I don't take it as an insult if someone blocks me, any more than I'd be insulted if they spoke to different people than me at a party or amusement park.
@AskTheDevil I was going to add that, too. If we can identify the right motives, then hopefully we can also take the freight out of it on the receiving end.
People making a big out of blocking or being blocked has always been one of the weirder elements of social media to me.
@sumpnlikefaith I am incapable of feeling peer pressure, envy, or jealousy, so it looks very odd to me. I've been trying to understand those feelings as an outsider for some time. I think there's some instincts that can go awry when people are subjected to unhealthy experiences.
@AskTheDevil Yes! The fear of missing out loses all its power when the inside-people are, by all indications, having a perfectly miserable time.
@sumpnlikefaith Yep. I block folks the first time they spout the kind of stuff I don't want in my life.
Not a problem -- not done with malice -- a couple clicks to ensure my tranquility.
