Okay this thread is going to be pinned.
I’m intersex. Androgen insensitive. My chromosomes are XY despite looking phenotypically female. When I was born I didn’t have all the necessary mapping like a vaginal canal or cervix. I had a partial uterus, an ovary and a gonad not connected to anything. Because of this, the doctor suggested to my parents to get me “fixed” right away. There was 0 reasons to do this. It was not negatively affecting me. I could pee just fine.
At 3 years old my parents took me to have my condition “corrected”. The doctor who did it wasn’t a specialist or a urologist even. He made a vaginal canal (keep in mind I was 3 years old) and moved my urethra into it. Apparently on the inside he also moved around my kidneys and bladder. I had frequent bladder infections growing up and no one knew why.
After being with a long term sexual partner at 25 who told me things weren’t organized properly I asked my mom about it. Of course the only way I could have known was if someone has seen it she went off on me so I didn’t get any answers. I tried again later and was shamed for it so I started trying to seek out a doctor who could help. Every time I was shot down by insurance because it was considered cosmetic despite it seriously affecting my health.
After a decade I decided to get another surgery, a hysterectomy, since it didn’t work anyway and really wasn’t interested in fixing it’s behavior. I asked the obgyn if I could also get my urethra re arranged and she said sure she just needed a urologist present to help. So I scheduled that. It was just a few days ago while I am typing this up. April 27, 2022 is the day it was done.
Surgery started at 9am. I came to at 5pm. So a 2 hour max procedure ended up going for 8 hours because of how misplaced my entire urinary tract was. My tubes to my kidneys were twisted and my urethra was twisted around one of them so it took quite a while to untangle it all and also move it to the correct positions in my body. I currently have kidney stents to help everything heal.
My intestines were exposed for quite a while during the process so I was very bloated up until today.
@suedanim I posted this back in April and pinned it then. I’m doing great now. All healed! Thank you tho! 💕
