Today we visited SS Great Britain, I.K. Brunel's famous ironclad steam liner. The first of her kind to be driven by propellor rather than paddles.
Photos incoming...
Below the hull in the dry dock.
A rusty Victorian rivet.
That propellor.
A sign by Captain Obvious 😂

1. Heart of Oak
2. What a ⚓!
3. The weather deck
4. I guess this is as far as I go then 😜

1. Honestly! She should have joined the navy.
2. This system disengages the propellor and lifts it out of the water to reduce drag when using sail power. It's really impressive!
The glass ceiling above the dry dock has a water feature. This is what it looks like from below. A fish's eye view.
@stueytheround 💛 incoming mumlove🤗
@stueytheround Some connections to #Liverpool with her too, if memory serves? Was the screw built on Merseyside or was it just the shaft? And I think the maiden voyage was to NYC from the 'Pool wasn't it?
Cracking photos, I'm loving these!
@BillyBones There was so much to see and do I couldn't take it all in. £22 for an annual pass and we *will* be going back. We didn't even make it into the "Being Brunel" exhibition. I think we probably covered a fifth of it in the two hours we had available. It's one of the best tourist attractions I've ever visited.
@AndersonArtwork It was amazing!
