Smitty's been missing for over 1/2 an hour. ๐ข
I got home later than I meant to & when I got in my patio I could hear him whining through the window. I forgot to latch the gate closed & when I opened the door, the brat scurried out. I didn't expect either of them to because I knew they'd be hungry & they usually wait inside...yowling at me.
The few times that he has wandered off, he always comes back within 10-15 minutes.
I tried wandering around looking but my body keeps crapping out on me.
He and his wife just spent 30 minutes helping to look for him. They walked up and down a couple of blocks, had flashlights.
It's quiet as can be out which is very unusual for this area. Normally there will be noisy cars roaring down the main road 1/2 a block away or sirens.
I won't be sleeping much, if at all. ๐ข
I told Maddie to send a telepathic message to the brat teling him to come home and she'll let him chase her around the apartment, even though she hates it.
he didnโt come home. ๐ข๐ข๐ข๐ข๐ข
His food dish that I put out still has all the food. Called the shelter and put in his notice. Posted on Pawboost but it wonโt let me share the post to Nextdoor so I had to do a screenshot shot and post it that way.
Now heading out to post flyers. Walked over to a couple of apartments across the street and right next door
@see_the_sus I hope you find him! Having our pets be MIA is one of the most distressing things possible! Glad you have someone to help!
He's a squirrely bugger, even though he weighs over 18lbs. Loves to play tag. Especially w/ Maddie who does not appreciate his rambuctiousness.
@see_the_sus ๐ ๐ญ
Nice he is coming to help. I hope you find him soon!
Be gentle with yourself and take care.
@disk4mat @see_the_sus
>Be gentle with yourself and take care.
Yes, this! Smitty won't want you to hurt yourself. After all, you are needed for feeding and petting duty.
@walterbays ๐ @see_the_sus
He and his wife showed up and they both had bright flashlights. I can't find my large one (probably got lost in my move last year) and my other one needs batteries, so all I have is my iPhone.
@see_the_sus what's up with our cats tonight? Mine snuck out and I had a hard time grabbing him and bringing him in, and I didn't want to be too rough on the old bugger. My dog orchastrated the event by pretending he had to go out, and making sure he paused to let the cat sneak by. I sure hope your wayward kitty comes home soon
Oy vey! Two in cahoots! Glad you were able to wrangle him.
Smits is such a rambunctious character, always pushing the limits.
It's cold out, 42F and his coat isn't thick.
Do you have a Facebook page for your area? If you're not on fb, ask someone to post in it with a picture and your number. If they can't grab smitty, at least you'll know the general area where he was last seen. It can help narrow down the searching.
Still sending hope โค๏ธ
Thank you. I completely forgot about that and I'm on NextDoor as well. ๐
Also, when you finally get home for the night (or if you can request help), make some flyers and post them up. When I walk my dog, I take pictures of the flyers to look around, bc we're usually trekking for a bit.
And you're welcome โค๏ธ
Iโll have to do posters in the morningโฆ.if heโs

I hope he gets home safely and soon! Post to Petboost as well, and look in their "found" listings. They'll post it to Facebook as well as to their email blasts that are regional (based on zip codes). I check each email. We have a lot of well-fed loose cats around here. I don't look at them too hard unless they appear to be in need, or I see a missing post on Pawboost or local flyers. I got a dog back to its people using flyers.
Yes, petboost! I forgot about them, bc I haven't been on Facebook in forever. I didn't know they had emails. I'll check it out. Thanks!
It doesnโt help that heโs white and black. But his collar is glow in the dark and thereโs a bell.
I just donโt know if I should post now or wait until early morning when the sun comes up, if heโs not home.
@see_the_sus best of luck!
@see_the_sus Hope he comes home soon. They can be really weird about that sometimes. Maybe he just got distracted by something, or decided to explore a while.
@see_the_sus And sometimes they'll just burrow down in some fallen leaves to get warm & cozy, and once they're there they don't want to get out again. So he might not show up until morning, maybe.
I hadnโt even fed them dinner. I kept thinking as I gave Maddie her dish that he would hear the spoon clinking on the ceramic dish and smell the food as I opened the can.
He does like to burrow. He crawl under the covers with me on the couch and bed.
Iโm going to โsleepโ in the living room so I can hear him better when he comes back.

I bet he was all, โHey hey, howโs it going?โ
@see_the_sus
I've known cats who would disappear for a few days at a time sometimes. Especially males, don't know if he's been neutered.
I know how you must feel, hang in there! ๐ข ๐ฅฐ

My sister's cat would do the same thing. Hoping for the best!

Our childhoods are only a Google search away! The cartoons at least, still can't find that energy. ๐
If you follow this link and click on "Images," you'll see a bunch of gifs.

@see_the_sus Been thereโฆ I hope you find him soon! ๐พ๐
@see_the_sus . Oh, so upsetting. I always notice my cat knows where we are, even when we don't know where he is. Hope he's home soon.
@see_the_sus Purveyor of hope here, realistic and false alike.
Someone could have said, oh a poor lost/stray kitty, so cute, come in where it's warm, have some food. Posters or common sense will reach them.
Or he ran into a garage as people were leaving and is trapped inside until they return, with nothing to eat but mice.
Or he's two timing you and adopted a second family of humans, who also can't understand where he goes away for so long.
Continued best wishes.๐ง๐
I'm so sorry.
Heโs been found and back home since about 11 a.m. โฅ๏ธ
we were putting up flyers and knocking on doors when some guys drove up with one of my flyers and asked if I was the one with the lost cat. The brat was hiding under one of the guyโs car back at his driveway.
@see_the_sus I really like Smitty from pictures you post!
Our cat always tries to escape at night, which we dislike because there are coyotes. We walk around front and back and down the street calling. Maybe 4-6 times. Then get ready to look once more, open the door, and he's standing there and trots right in. He comes back whenever he wants to.
May the 5th time you put on your shoes to go look be the time Smitty trots in.
@see_the_sus Our previous cat went out one night and didn't return. Our boy went to preschool and told his teacher, I don't have a cat anymore. So sad!
A couple hours later she suddenly turned up at the door, hungry, as though nothing has happened. We phoned the school so the teacher could tell him she was back.
If Smitty in his cat wisdom decides tonight is for play in the wild, I hope tomorrow he comes back asking you what all the fuss is about.
@see_the_sus They're often nearer by than they seem. Nibs pulled a couple of disappearing acts after Sketch and Crinkle moved in. She showed up a while later (wondering why I was so agitated). Another cat of ours, Taylor, disappeared for a month. I'd pretty much given up when one morning he walked into my bedroom wondering when breakfast was served.๐ Cats - they pull this crap.๐
He's a brat, to say the least. Adorable bratty scoundrel who steals mine and everyones heart. I'm typically on top of latching the gate as I enter but I was carrying a bag and tired, knew the fur monsters would be annoyed that I hadn't fed 'em dinner and worried about losing my balance. and on and on
@see_the_sus Almost all of mine have been brats - at least if their young when we get them. Crinkle is a little maniac - but an awfully loyal little sidekick as well.๐
Smits will be five in January but he still thinks he's a kitten.
@see_the_sus Nibs is six. Sketch and Crinkle are just large enough to be adults now, but the kittens they were this summer are still pretty much there.๐
Put a sweater that is well worn by you & his kitty litter box outside. Their sense of smell is over tenfold ours.
I hope he comes home soon ๐
thank you, I'll get those items outside.
@see_the_sus Oh no! ๐๐ค
It's 46F out but I've got my front door open and the window that faces the parking lot, open a smidge.
@see_the_sus
๐ โค๏ธ ๐พ
@see_the_sus put canned food where they can smell it while you are looking !!
I've got a blanket and some food outside.
@see_the_sus I really hope kitty is home soon!! ๐ค ๐ค โค๏ธ โค๏ธ
donโt lose hope, my big guy was gone for weeks, my daughter and I plastered the neighborhood with his big picture, on cars and light posts. Finally a neighbor called, he ๐โโฌ had gone thru the roof and was in the wall. They took apart their wall so we could get to him. thank God. 5 AMโs spent hunting for him I no longer had to do, and he was right there the whole time.
Cats are normally just within the vicinity, definitely bang bushes at neighbor properties. @see_the_sus @Tattoomonkey29
His collar has a bell and he talks a lot which makes it easy for me to hear him but it's completely quiet out.
I finally got him microchipped last month...I just want him to come home. damnit. ๐
