23andMe gives my paternal haplogroup as R-DC25, which is actually pretty detailed info. I think there's only one lower branch it could be. They give my maternal haplogroup as X2, which I think is a lot more general. I wish someone more familiar with these matters could tell me more.

@see_the_sus They are groupings based on either Y or mitochondrial DNA. They denote branches/forks in a tree of relatedness. The Y branch I'm on is like a twig that developed a few thousand years ago. The mitochondrial group I'm in is more like a main branch that forks off from the trunk of women's inheritance. I will try to find an article that explains it better.
