I miss being a teenager that could eat anything and the freezer full of food from Costco my parents provided. I didn't know how wonderful those days were.
@BillieBun those were the days, eh?
@scottyorange I moved out of my parental home while still in high school, renting a place with 7 other girls, sleeping on a mattress on the floor, no car, walked everywhere...
@BillieBun @scottyorange I miss being a teenager and my 1br apartment cost $240 a month
@shadow_queene @scottyorange Yes-yes! I think I paid $40 or $50 a month, with utilities. 8 girls, of course.
@BillieBun @shadow_queene I lived in an apartment with six others for like $200 a month. I shared a bedroom with one of them.
@BillieBun @shadow_queene I had massive athletes foot problems from the one shower we shared.
@scottyorange @shadow_queene I never had that problem, but the girl I shared a bedroom "needed" everything to be absolutety quiet; she would have a fit even if I listened to music with those big old headphones of the day... she could hear the needle on the record... 😠
@BillieBun @scottyorange Yeah, mine was including utilities too. I lived alone most of the time. Ex-husband kind of came and went.
@shadow_queene @scottyorange I didn't have an ex husband for a few more years... I was still in high school.
@BillieBun @scottyorange I should have been in high school, but life happened. I was 17.
@shadow_queene @scottyorange I have no idea why, but I never once thought of not finishing high school.
@BillieBun @scottyorange I didn't get a choice. Shitty home life, moved out at 16, bounced around for a year, never in the same school district long enough to bother. Then I got married because it was easier than getting emancipated. Got my GED a couple years later.
@shadow_queene starring what you have said not because I like it but I'm glad you have shared it. That must have been tough. @BillieBun
@scottyorange @BillieBun It was, but I made it through.
@shadow_queene @scottyorange Ya, the shitty home life- I waited till I had saved up "enough" money from babysitting. Didn't get married right away, but there certainly was a guy there ready to ruin my life.....
@BillieBun @scottyorange It kind of got that way with no warning for me. I was not prepared but I did it anyway
@shadow_queene @BillieBun I graduated high school andy brother convinced me to go to BYU Idaho right away. I could talk for hours about this. But my experience wasn't as difficult as yours.
@scottyorange @BillieBun I don't ever want someone to not talk about their life because mine was "worse." It's subjective anyway. If it was difficult for you, it was difficult.
@shadow_queene @scottyorange Well, when you're escaping a fucked up family situation you do a lot of stupid things because you don't know how not to. I know that was the case for me anyway. Now I figure I'm a couple of weeks shy of 67 so at least I didn't die of stupidity. I later went to college, got a Master's, taught for 25 years, was a "productive citizen" for what that was worth. 😜
@BillieBun we should all hangout in real life sometime somewhere. @shadow_queene
@scottyorange @shadow_queene That would be fun, actually. I imagine we live nowhere near each other...
@BillieBun @scottyorange I'm a month from 42. Dropped out of college twice, but eventually found my way to a good job I'm perfect for, happily (re)married, and I like my life most of the time. It all worked out in the end.
@shadow_queene @scottyorange Of course I have to say the obligatory "You're just a baby" because to me you are.
@BillieBun @scottyorange I figured that was coming 🤣 at least I'm young to someone
@shadow_queene @scottyorange My plumbing was defective so I couldn't have kids, but my oldest nephew is in his 50s, the youngest pushing 40. A number of furry child-substitutes, 3 dogs, 2 cats right now.
@BillieBun @shadow_queene I am 44-ish. Don't tell anyone.
@scottyorange @shadow_queene Awwwww, another "kid". 🤣 I always think about how people younger than me seem to be a lot smarter about a lot of things than people my age.
@shadow_queene @BillieBun I just remembered I couldn't get any of them to take out the trash so I just wheeled in the outside bin to our kitchen. #flashbacks I just remembered another thing...We were trying to get attention from any ladies so we bought an ancient ice cream maker made of wood and I built a motor to automate it. We kept it running out on our porch in the winter. Fresh homemade ice cream with peach slices and granola topping to whomever wanted some. It was like a cheat code.
@scottyorange I miss being a teenager and thinking I pretty much knew everything.
