Why does religion seem to lead to terrible acts? #atheist #religion #CoSoQuestions
@scottyorange it's about power. who has the power? who wants to hold on to it? and how do they choose to hold onto it?
religion is a vehicle for power hungry megalomaniacs who want to use it to hold onto to their power, to acquire their power over others.
faith is about hope. religion is about controlling the masses and wielding power.
@scottyorange A religion apologist would counter your argument in the following ways:
1. It is not religion that should be blamed but human nature.
2. Humans have free will and thus their good and evil deeds
Don"t be fooled by this as religion is not infallible nor does religion hold a monopoly on morality and religion has had well over thousands of years to explicate or dismiss its weaknesses. Remember ...religion is a human creation and concept. #religion
@scottyorange Because people use religion, and any number of other institutions and philosophies, as a justification for action, and as a substitute for personal choice and responsibility.
People also use religion and other institutions as a method of control, telling others to obey an external voice beyond their own.
That selects for people who obey, and people who might be manipulative and want to control others.
What could possibly go wrong with that?

Hey Voltaire! (Yes, he really said this. 😉) Take it away…
