DW put her foot down & insisted on buying a portable a/c for our bedroom, despite the fact that we have (in theory anyway) central air. It's bulky and noisy and was a surprising pain to install.

OMG am I in love with this thing. So cool in there now, and all through the night.

We affectionately refer to it as "the Blorgon"

The central air doesn't really make it to the top floor of the house, I think b/c the ductwork was designed for heat only.

@rpardee We have to adjust the registers. Full open upstairs, partially open downstairs.

Keeping fan mode on also helps.

@rpardee
I have a mini-split in my bedroom which lets me keep it the exact perfect temperature at all times. I adore it. Happy sleeping 💤

@CinnamonGirlE heh--that would have been lovely, but def outside my competence to install.

@rpardee
My hubby owned an HVAC company. He understood my desire for it to be the exact right temperature at all times 😂

@rpardee if you can monitor your electric bill online , just keep an eye on it.

My portable is…… supposedly efficient. But I can almost never afford to run it. 😅

@Beanc yep, we definitely are. It's actually a heat pump & so more efficient than a straight a/c (I think). But ever since we got the solar installed we've been near-obsessed with our usage/generation ratio.

It definitely takes a bite, but so far it'smanageable.
