You know that prank where you hold a bucket of water against the ceiling w/a broomstick & trick your buddy into taking over holding it for you & just leave them?
With hindsight anyway, it feels like that's what US involvement in Afghanistan always was. Biden's just the poor schmuck who got tired of holding up the bucket.
@janallmac oh god, I sure hope not. I'm no historian, but I have the impression that's a particularly difficult part of the earth to occupy. Didn't the Soviets crash & burn there too?
@janallmac yeah, I'm hearing they're sending those 3k back to secure the airport (escape route really) while they conduct a reduction in the # of staff at the embassy/consulate/whatever in Kabul. Supposedly this is *not* a "complete abandonment". We'll see...
@rpardee
Good. I'm not a praying person but I'll pray for the safety of all concerned in that effort.
@rpardee
Pretty sure they did.
Don't listen to me, though. I don't know what I'm talking about, and am only guessing. I did hear we're sending 3,000 troops back there currently but don't know if that's true or not.
It just seems like such a massive shitshow (sorry!) that we should do something. No idea what that is.
