Dear every action movie character ever: the whole point of a gun is that you don't have to get close to your adversary. When one approaches you, you shoot them before they can grab your gun.
In "Rustler's Rhapsody", Rex "The Singing Cowboy" O'Herlihan is SUCH a good guy, he can only shoot people who've PROVEN they're bad guys, and even then, only in the hand.
Luckily, he's a REALLY good shot.
Just once I would like to see a good guy, super or not, take out the bad guys, from 1,500 meters, with a good long rifle. Just skip all that confrontation stuff. All the hitting and kicking and fake martial arts fighting.
