It used to be that the children had to rebel against the stodgy, conventional, unimaginative, thick-headed adults.

Now the children have to rebel against–other children, who are apparently as hateful and brutal in their enforcement of privilege as their parents.

I don't think that's totally new, but I have such pity for any child today who is sensitive, caring, imaginative, idiosyncratic, or rebellious. Where do they fit in?

@DavidSalo We just had a big talk and I told daughter it’s a fine line she needs to walk. It’s not cowardice but realise that most people are not like you. Speak out but not at the expense of your own safety. Make good friends and stick together. Be careful of thinking because everyone you follow online has your values that it’s like that IRL because it’s not.
