Canes-Caps going to the skills competition. I think this means @minter gets combat pay.

A Humble Request to New Cosonauts:

You may have just come here from a place full of bigotry and hate. We get it. Know that we don't that here.

Please don't repost the horrors of the other place here. We're aware, but we're here because we don't want any of it anymore.

If reposting bird carnage is all you are about, you will soon find yourself muted or blocked by many here.

Let this place be something different; not just an outrage rehash.

As you were.

Caps win YAY! Carly and Osh got injured BOO!

Good for Leeds, but damn, that stings for Liverpool.

I'm also into the hockey () - I'm a Washington Capitals season ticket holder. Currently looking forward to the Stadium Series down in Raleigh in February.

OK , here I am again. My club and country are DC United (the less said about them recently, the better) and the United States (I'm president of the local American Outlaws chapter.) I also support the Washington Spirit. I'll watch just about any good soccer, and probably don't hate your team, unless it is a Red Bull team. Old habits die hard.

Anyway, if you're into The Beautiful Game, so am I.

Well, I've not been very consistently active here, but now that the sale is complete and I've signed off over there, maybe I'll pipe up more often. I'm naturally a quiet type anyway, so don't expect too much.

Anyway, welcome to the newcomers. I hope you enjoy it here. It's very different than what you're used to, and not in a bad way. Take your time to get acclimated and dive in whenever you're ready. Again, welcome.

Quoting something I said elsewhere:

It's fine to have rules and enforce them. But consider whether a gentle "hey, we don't do that here" (adding "we do this instead" where appropriate) is more effective than "these are our rules and we will not hesitate to yeet you back to Myspace if you even think about breaking any of them." You're never going to stop all of the jerks. Let's not make our policies focus on keeping out jerks, but instead on attracting and keeping in unjerks.

Taking a wait-and-see on bird site’s new direction as eel site. Have a feeling I won’t have to wait long to make up my mind.

Correction: it pisses off people who live in the suburbs, or who live inside the beltway* and need to go to the suburbs for things like funerals, which happened to some friends of mine the morning.

* much of “inside the beltway” is also not Washington, either. A lot of it is still Virginia and Maryland.

So apparently the Q Trucks Klan is heading down I-270 and plans to drive slowly around the Beltway. Yeah, that’ll show them. Whoever “them” are.

A reminder that aside from a small fraction of a mile across the Wilson bridge, the Beltway does not enter Washington; fucking around on 495 does not have any effect on the government and only pisses off people who live in the suburbs. Great job!

Aaaaaand there's the helicopters. At least they're flying high enough tonight to not rattle my house.

Though, the noise is fairly frequent, and DCA doesn't have that many flights at this time of night.

(By the way, calling DCA by the name of the 40th president is a great way to out yourself as a non-local in these parts.)

One thing I expected to hear more of tonight, given that I hear them all the time, but am not hearing tonight: helicopters.

One thing I am hearing: jets. Don't know my jet noise well enough to know what kind, but DC is heavily restricted airspace. (Could still be passenger jets, as DCA is just downriver.)

One of the vehicles forming the roadblock near my house is an NYPD bus. I do not live in New York. I'm sure there is some sort of cop mutual aid pact at work here, but seriously, they couldn't have just parked, y'know, a DC Metrobus instead?

(I'm not watching the thing. I live in DC, not Washington. I don't work for the government and I'm not a West Wing cosplayer.)
