Gonna need a new book after this. Well, I have a couple to read already on deck, but once I finish the Wheel of Time, I’m thinking… about reading it again.

Or maybe the Dune series. It has been 20 years since I’ve cracked that fucker and considering how different WoT hit me at my current age, I’m guessing that Dune would hit me differently, too.

HOWEVER, the books greater than God Emperor are some kind of weird fuckery and I don’t think I even want to touch them now.

@EnochianEntropy

The Dunes certainly reward being read multiple times, but the more I read them, the less I like them, and the less I like Herbert himself.

The list of things I don't like is very long: starting with slipshod nomenclature and language, opaque style, clumsy plotting, unsympathetic cardboard characters, outright sexism and homophobia, and an unhealthy sympathy for autocracy.

Somehow the whole is greater than the parts, though.

@DavidSalo Dune’s one of those books you need to read after at least three decades. 1.5 is not enough.

@kismatt @DavidSalo They definitely deserve a look again after some life. Paul is very different at 30 than he is at 16.
