Just downloaded the awesome audiobook Mike Duncan’s “The Storm Before the Storm”. A brilliant book about the reasons the Roman Republic fell and autocracy emerged. It’s pretty prescient of our times.

Wasn't the Roman Empire always autocratic? Onle the Senators got to vote in the next emporer, & god only knows who voted for the Senators. If it was the citizens, it was only the wealthy citizens.
