@jjGravitas not really. it does mean those looking to install solar shouldn't fall for the first sales pitch & should get a few quotes & maybe do some research before making decisions.
for example, never go for the "leased solar panels" scam, where you pay the solar install company instead of the electric company. make sure that what you are buying is actually enough to run the things you need to run, etc

@jjGravitas i have a 15kW ground mounted system. i haven't paid for electricity in 5 years. my system was installed by a company that carefully considers your actual needs & usage before designing the system... and i added more panels when it became clear we really do need air conditioning here now :p
i'm getting to the point where, if we don't move soon, i'll be thinking of adding a battery bank for when the power goes out
