POTUS Jimmy Carter put solar panels up on the White House in the 1970s. One of the 1st things POTUS Reagan did was to take those solar panels down.

To be fair (and accurate), the solar panels were removed in 1986, more than 5 years into Reagan's presidency and well into his second term.

Far worse for the prospects of solar power was Reagan's canceling of tax credits for people making use of solar panel heating. Even worse was the way that Reagan Administration Interior Secretary Watt and EPA head Gorsuch (mother of now-Justice Gorsuch) systematically sided with big polluters.

@jjGravitas They were solar water-heating panels, not solar electric, and were removed during resurfacing of the roof. They were reinstalled at Unity College to reheat water for the dining hall.

Three of the panels are now in museums.
