squirrel news.
this morning a black squirrel digging like mad at the back of the garden, through the snow, a hole his head was inside. it was like "i know i put it around here, i know it".
about 15 or so minutes later, i just had to watch, yes, there it is, a lovely black walnut, which he dashed away with to find a quiet spot for a snack.
then, one of the red squirrels figured out how to use the squirrel buster peanut feeder, being small and light was his advantage.
i got some videos of that.
@holon42 I have a black one hanging on my feeder just like that :) It does not claim to be squirrel proof though. I do have one of those types you have. I had to put it on a small 1' long chain so they couldn't do what he's doing.
the black and grey squirrels are too heavy and the feeders close, although newbies always give it a go for awhile until they realize everyone else is eating up what's on the ground while they're wasting their time🤣🤣🤣
i don't think a longer chain would stop him though, red squirrels are damn agile little beasties.
@holon42 and MEAN those suckers are like the honey badgers of squirrels.
i've heard that before. so far, they seem timid initially but once they've established themselves, they chase the larger ones without hesitation 🤯
they disappear when i go out, so far.
interesting little barbarians. raping fox squirrels, wow😵💫
guess when you're small you have to be tough, like little dogs 😂
there's plenty of raptors around here, so some of them may already have been snacks, since the recent arrivals are not the ones from last summer, who were quite at home here.
