Tathāgata, a Pali word; Gautama Buddha uses it when referring to himself or other Buddhas in the Pāli Canon.
The term is often thought to mean, in English: One who has thus gone; Thus Come One.
Shinzen Young translates it as "this process", so Buddha refers to himself not as an unchanging essence, but as a process reciprocally intertwined with other processes.

Deb Dana expands upon what Shinzen says about awareness of "unconscious" processes.
"Without awareness, neuroception works in the background serving our survival and shaping our days. It is when we bring perception to neuroception that we have access to perspective. By adding perception to the autonomic process of neuroception, we are no longer simply in the state; we are now able to be with it and observe and reflect on the experience."
