Calling for a ceasefire reminds me of the phrase "if Palestinian terrorists lay down their arms, there could be peace. If Israel lays down its arms, there will be no Israel." I mean sure, go ahead and talk and try to negotiate but don't be so naive as to think you will get very far without existential "incentives".
@hallmarc We've been doing it the way we've been doing it for how many decades and it hasn't worked?
When you do something over and over and it doesn't work, if you keep doing it, you're either stupid, crazy, or you don't _want_ it to work.
@AskTheDevil well, there are caveats to that conventional wisdom. Sometimes there are latent and/or hidden preconditions to enable something to work. What's going on in front of cameras is usually very different from what's happening behind the scenes. But one thing is for sure: when an enemy tells you who they are, never doubt them or their resolve.
@hallmarc Well said.
@hallmarc
Yup, my muting finger is getting a workout lately.
It's all well and nice to say that we want peace. Tell that to the warlords starting the damned things. They are the ones putting their own people in danger. Every wounded and killed person on both sides is on their heads.
People who have been attacked and are defending themselves are not in charge of peace.
