It happened again last night. My dog's nose started bleeding from the left nostril.We were able to get it stopped with ice packs on the nose. Last week we took him to the vet for the same thing, but they had no idea what caused it. Any ideas?
@Lironah We haven't turned our heat on yet. Still in the 70s here. But you're right. I used to get nose bleeds this time of year. Never had a dog do it though. It's scary.
@h8cloz There can be soooo many causes. Have you found any articles online? Here's a decent one.

@sarcasmsign Excellent information. Thank you!
Usually bleeding from one side would indicate that there is a foreign body up there. Could be something they inhaled, a sticker-who knows. But it can also indicate a local tumor. If it happens again then I would have the vet take a better, closer look. Has there been any medication change? Sometimes a bleed could be a side effect. I’m sorry your pup is going through that-how very confusing for them!
@whonat Prior to last Monday, he was on Carprofen, 1/2 pill per day for arthritis pain. That stopped, of course. Vet couldn't see anything obvious, but didn't want to do xrays until blood cleared up. They did blood work and nothing out of the ordinary (platelets were a bit low). Hoping we can make it to Thursday for his follow-up.
@h8cloz Dry air? Always gets worse here once the heat turns on.
