Music theory: All music must follow a carefully constructed set of rules pertaining to notes, scales, chords, rhythm, melody, harmony, and form.

Jazz: Hold my beer...

@grayman @tgraph52 I appreciate the joke and at the same time Iโ€™ve jammed with hard core Jazz players and had discussions about soloing. The common thread in my small sample was they tied specific modes or the related arpeggios to specific chords. And it comes down to choices within the structure. And that can be great and I appreciate the abstractionists who color outside the lines (while not โ€œJazzโ€ Jeff Beck was a Jazz player).

As someone else commented, it's not the wrong note that matters as much as the note that follows... that can bring it back into the 'proper' mode...

I've seen it done many times by good players...

@CanisPundit @grayman

I found it fun to hear a good player hit a wrong note and then in the very next second wonder if you heard it wrong at all ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿผ

oooohhhh....
okay, you all know that's not what theory is, you don't need me to point it out...........
but, man, students come in with that idea fixed in their heads, and, oy, the crowbars required.....
