I’ve noticed one of the unforeseen consequences of committing to a healthy lifestyle as you age is seeing your friends, get old and sick and die around you. Everybody makes a different choices, and who knows what’s gonna go wrong and take you, but you have to be prepared to be the last ones standing both mentally and physically if you choose that path.
Just remember that Jim Fixx, the jogging guru, died of a heart attack at age 52 while out for his daily run, whereas I, a life-long amalgam of bad habits, am still here at age 70.
Life has a particularly twisted sense of humor.
@BenA Yeah I take every day seriously and am trying to maximize this human experience.. I just wasn't prepared for my support network and friends to start falling away
@gomez_addams I hear you. I lost almost my whole support system during the pandemic either by folks dying of Covid or doing stupid shit like sitting for 3 years and drinking. I was getting lured down the sitting path.. with friends wanting to zoom game all night and day. Then I decided to get outside and garden, cut down trees and lose weight. Now I've lost touch with even more friends.. sighs.. but I'm getting healthier.
Good luck!

I noticed that since I started boxing a year and a half ago my body seems to have actually reversed some of some slight “aging” symptoms I had developed during Covid. (My Kung Fu place closed down during Covid and I didn’t get the pretty extreme workout that I get now from boxing.) Even my hair seems to be a bit thicker. Not saying I won’t drop dead tomorrow from something awful, but I do feel energetic and strong in the meantime.
(Or maybe it’s all the coffee lol!)
I am on the Elysium supplements, anti-aging regimen. I also exercise as well and do cold therapy.
I like to nerd out about health stuff
@gomez_addams
You are way beyond me. My health thinking pretty much consists of: “I better eat some salads,” and “I really should get some sleep.” I have, however, stopped drinking entirely, don’t smoke, and work out. So I’m halfway there. Maybe.
@gomez_addams I had these conversations with my mom when she was in her early 90s and life ceased to be enjoyabe, despite reasonable health.
