Day 14 Alexander Calder

An American sculptor known both for his innovative mobiles that embrace chance in their aesthetic, his static "stabiles", and his monumental public sculptures.

Calder preferred not to analyze his work, saying, "Theories may be all very well for the artist himself, but they shouldn't be broadcast to other people." - Wiki

Artist with wire portraits, Pyramids, Mobile, The Arch

@gemswinc

I have a love/hate things with A Calder...

He created this Cherry Spoon sculpture that was placed in front of the Walker Museum that became THE most photographed thing in all of MN. Ever. There's racks of postcards and racks of photographs on canvas and metal at every art fair in the last 20 years.

Something about the obsessive nature of every tourist coming to the city taking photos with it just hits me wrong for some reason. It's not logical. It's visceral ๐Ÿ˜œ

@tgraph52 Oh dear, that is one I hadn't seen, and you have seen to much of!

@tgraph52 Yes, I once saw it at the Whitney. My mother was mad for him!
