If you think grocery prices take a big bite out of your paycheck in the US, check out the rest of the world 🍆🍅🥩🥓🥖🥔🌽

"What’s more, it’s important to note that food prices in the U.S. — relatively speaking — are the cheapest in the world, and have been for a long time. This is the case whether measured in terms of disposable personal income or in terms of percentage of household expenditures."

@gemswinc
People are easily led sheep with no critical thinking skills or ability to latch into anything but conspiracy theories. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@gemswinc
We really are. People just don't stop to think or realize.
And how much of the expensive fast food is poison? Groceries are expensive, no doubt. But usually the processed crap is ridiculous and unnecessary.

@gemswinc

Good information!👍. It makes sense when one looks at the grain production within the US.

@gemswinc i'd be a lot happier if i could buy actual food ingredients rather than processed food & "ready made" items in the supermarket.

@redenigma You don't have a source for what you prefer? I drive about 20 min & also admit to Amazon

@gemswinc i drive half hour one way to get to stores that are somewhat better than the local Hanneford, which is pretty much a glorified quickie mart. but the sad fact is that more & more supermarkets have extremely limited selections of fresh or frozen veggies and cuts of meat, because they no longer have actual meat cutters & are buying prepack & frozen cuts, and frozen veggies are MUCH more limited in variety, & most have gross "sauces" added, or are in microwave (tiny) bags for higher cost.

@gemswinc so, no, i don't have a source for what i prefer, which is raw ingredients i can cook with. i don't want all the processed stuff, or additives. i want real food

@redenigma Wow. So far, not an issue here, but I am in a much more populated area. I do see my favored "Wild by Nature" slowly adding what sells, more junk.

We still have a neighborhood butcher, farms and nearby vegetable markets. Food availability is a top consideration if moving, I have decided.

@gemswinc @redenigma I've been fortunate to live in small cities that have pretty good Asian or other "ethnic" food stores, locally owned, not chains, that have some fresh veggies and meats.

@gemswinc Yes, but when everything else around the food is too expensive, we can't afford our "cheap" food either.

@AskTheDevil Yes, I know it's an imperfect argument in specific circumstances, adding in external costs.

@peeppeepcircus Oh yes, food production will be further disrupted, fun, fun..
