Wildfires in Southern California torch dozens of homes and force thousands to evacuate 😔

A terrible tragedy for those people.. and so scary. We get wildfires within sight of us at times... at least 15 miles away though.

I'm sorry but in today's news cycle, this line jumped out at me:
"Their cat was missing, she said."

@gemswinc

The smoke comes into town in the mornings when they're that close and hangs for a while. We have to keep the windows shut and use AC those days... and have a go bag packed.

We also cut everything away from the house as best we can... which it seems a lot of people in pricier neighborhoods refuse to do.

Not this 4th of July but the previous, someone's fireworks set the grasses in our back yard on fire. The FD was there in a flash though.

We''re very dry here.

@tgraph52 Oh no, oh no. Fireworks terrify me here, for that reason. Fire is what concerns me here.

@gemswinc

We went through tornadoes in MN many times...

and 2 earthquakes in our year in San Diego...

We thought we were safe from natural disasters here in SW NM but fires can be truly terrifying. The Ruidoso wildfires, about 3 hours away from us, that started in June were a vivid reminder of how fast they can strike.
