Good morning CoSo ☕️ 🌤️ I saw a fox on the driveway cam this AM. I've never seen a fox in the yard the entire time I've lived here 🤔

@gemswinc
I have them occasionally. I also have coyotes and someone told me they won't live within certain areas of each other. It seems to bear out as they seem to live in a circle. When I have foxes, the coyotes are across the way, and vice versa. Prefer the foxes of course.

@CinnamonGirlE I've seen foxes on LI, just not right here. I'm told coyotes are in Western LI. Interesting yard you have, and observations!

@gemswinc
I have a lot of wooded area which brings all kinds of critters. It is interesting. And sometimes a little scary. We had what I thought was a rabid raccoon years ago which would keep coming up to the house during the day. Had to call animal control. 😳

@gemswinc
One of the funniest animal stories involves my dog at the time, a rescue pet baby from when my kids were little. We had two at the same time. One was the wild one. He somehow cornered a goat up on the deck. When I got home from work and heard something, it was being guarded and unable to get down because the dog wouldn't let it! No idea where the goat came from. Hubs got it loose from our dog guarding it! 😂

@gemswinc
I occasionally see a fox in the yard if sensors turn on the light. The outdoors cats aren't in the least bit bothered by them.

@gemswinc Princess Goldeneyes hangs around many hours of the day. She stays up on the rail of the deck when the fox shows up, and they don't interact. The opossum is a more frequent visitor. Princess isn't at all bothered by Opey and vice-versa. If she's in the chair or on the deck she just stays there. The bigger animals like the racoon, dogs, and coyote don't show up as much, or I don't see them at 3am unless I see the light go on. She can go into her hotel (below)if they do.

@Priestess That is adorable! Quite a menagerie you have going by!

@gemswinc
For a few years, after my neighbor died, I was taking care of 8 feral cats. I trapped them all and got them neutered. Most of them disappeared when 74 acres of forest adjacent to my back yard were destroyed and developed into an industrial "park". I only see 3 of them nowadays. I never saw coyotes until their habitat was destroyed. At about the time when coyotes were spotted, cats started disappearing. Such is the nature of nature. I think 2 cats were taken in by new neighbors.

@Priestess Wondeful that you did that. Awful the forest was razed. Heartbreaking. Cats as coyote food makes sense 😖 Thanks for sharing all this!

@gemswinc I've seen foxes. There's a field about half a mile to the east of me where there are many prairie dogs.
