Kid got a new car today.
We promised him our old BMW i3 as a graduation present (when we thought he wouldn't graduate,) but traded it in months ago (when we thought he wouldn't graduate.)
He did graduate. So we said we'd pay what it's worth toward a new car. Used cars have gone up a lot since we traded it in. Plus selling his current car. Plus he threw some in from his savings.
So brand new WRX.
@ehurtley Congratulations! I'm expecting to drive my Nissan until it won't run anymore.π
@hhv Yep, historically we're "drive it 'til it dies". Unusual that we have three purchases in one year.
Lucky kid. You must be very proud of him π
@JoyfullyDazed Yep. COVID online schooling hit him hard, then a couple massively negative events this last (his senior) year. We thought for sure he wouldn't graduate, and he was so burned out, no way he was going to do a 5th year. Assumed he'd take GED at some point.
So extremely proud, more than happy (although bank account not so much) to do slight splurge and get him a nice (and RELIABLE!) vehicle.
He'll always remember how he felt when he graduated and how you made him proud of himself.
@ehurtley @JoyfullyDazed
I'm so sorry that happened to your kid, Covid 19/online schooling was terrible for teens. My son had a rough senior year with some very negative experiences as well. Thankfully, he graduated. I'm glad your kid is doing better now! π It was no joke, really.
Nice car, too. Lucky kid!
@ehurtley Congrats! To you all on his graduating and on the car, too! Looks zoomy.
And our new Rivian R1T has arrived in our city - just waiting on the delivery center to prep it so we can take delivery. Once we sell the vehicles these are replacing, we'll have three new cars bought in 2022.
Which should last all three of us until 2032 at least.
