Tech CEOs told 'you have blood on your hands' at US Senate child safety hearing

Zuckerberg testified along with X CEO Linda Yaccarino, Snap (SNAP.N), opens new tab CEO Evan Spiegel, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and Discord CEO Jason Citron.

In the hearing room, dozens of parents held pictures of their children who they said had been harmed due to social media.

The TechBros have a lot to answer for, but this smells like a classic ambush by Congresscritters eager to get on television.

@gshevlin all i know is i personally have read many a report, and posted they reports on here, about some social sites do in fact push stuff like self-harm and suicide help posts towards children

Guardian also recently done a two year investigation into child exploitation on Mrta and others

you can doubt whether they people are genuine all you want there is clear evidence kids are being harmed - and quite frankly if that's your take away, show me proof, from this it's pretty sad really

@ecksmc the world as we know it currently is a mess precisely because many people have chosen gullible credulity over polite skepticism.
Most congressional hearings either commence as grandstanding opportunities, or rapidly evolve that way. Genuine inquiry comes a long way down the list of desired outcomes.
Asking for proof is not "pretty sad", it should be a requirement in order for claims to be taken seriously.
