Why doesn't that surprise me the slightest...
SMS is definitely aging, but RCS certainly does not seem like the panacea Google and others are promoting it as.
While I won't use it for anonymous messaging, I would use Signal if I could convince my IRL contacts to switch over. It would be so easy for them, because you use your phone number to sign up (which is why I went use it for anonymous contacts).
Sadly, most people aren't infosec aware, and won't care about encrypted messaging until they are personally victimized.

It's not entirely fair to say categorically "RCS is worse than SMS". A lot depend on operator implementation, and operators almost categorically suck in this case...
