@duglop I just barely remember them, but my husband tells the story of how his older brother, (the neighborhood "hood" in a town like Mayberry) taught him how to take a bottle opener and a cup down to the corner where the machine was, and simply decant their beverage of choice from the cooler. 🙄
Explaining why that style of machine went out of style. LOL

@Superstitionsee I just saw something on another social media site that said you put a nickel in the machine and it dispenses one of them spiral paper cups and it gives you a little bit of soda... We didn't have anything like that in our school, but I could picture that probably in the mid '60s when I was born into the '70s...

@duglop I don't know about that, but there were still a few like this one around when I was a little kid, and on those, after you put in your coin, you yanked on the bottle neck and pulled the whole bottle out of the cooler.
I recall it being hard and taking a really good yank for a small girl. lol

@Superstitionsee there was another one that was flat and long and it had a track inside the cooler with bottles and you would put the coin in the side and you'd have to run the bottle through the whole track in the cooler to the end of the track and pull it out that was from the '60s and they still existed into the '80s
