I know I can't be the only 1 that thought these phones were my equivalent to being a member of the Starship Enterprise crew back when they first came out...

@duglop If you knew where to find it, you could use your WAP connection to download the genuine "chirp" for when you flipped it open!

@stueytheround I already have those chirps :) there's 2 sets of them actually - incoming hail and opening up the communicator (from the original series)

@stueytheround back in the day tho - we had to use extra imagination lmao :P
How are you doing my friend? Hoping you and yours had a glorious week and an even better weekend!

@duglop It's been a good week, thanks.
The weekend starts with helping my Mum run a church fair stall. Things are getting festive! 😁

@duglop That's actually a mid two thousands motorola..earlier models were even more "communicator" like...the 1996 Motorola StarTac was the first cell phone designed to look like you'd flip it open and instruct Scotty to "beam me up" 😆. It was extremely expensive as were the service plans for it. Back then the included minutes in any plan was intentionally low so they made huge $ on overages.

@Embers well the Star Trek communicator did not have an antenna I had a Virgin Mobile phone, I can't remember the brand name, that was thin and narrow and not too long it looked so much like the old-fashioned communicator

@duglop The job I lost to acquisition outsourcing 3 years ago was in mobile telecommunications. I have collections of old cell phones and pagers...which I repaired for customers or resale. Was just looking for a pic of the StarTak and saw what some of the phones I have are still selling for...holy crap!! Gotta start making them functional and list some of them! Can definitely use the income (and free space) 😄
