Cars can't reliably drive themselves until they can all "talk" to each other.

A real visionary would be pushing a 5G-enabled transportation protocol specific to this purpose. Each transport would share details about current conditions, location, destination, and relay that information to infrastructure hubs that can manage and direct traffic flows accordingly.
