"most voters want to brutalize desperate minorities from third-world countries" is not a reason to actually do it. the only Dems who are criticizing Biden just don't want to deal with migrants themselves. I want Biden to give a speech like "yeah I hear what you want on immigration, and I'm telling you that is awful and I won't treat human beings that way. grow up, find your compassion, and quit giving in to your basest impulses."
all of which I see as a great thing. people SHOULD be able to seek asylum here bc gangs have overrun their home. we SHOULD be welcoming any migrant coming to find a better life. we've got a gigantic goddamn statue on our largest port of entry that explicitly says so. how the fuck are we gonna claim to be the land of the free while defying the words of the statue of LIBERTY?
oh fuck off. if those policies helped the drug cartels then how did we still manage to seize record amounts of fentanyl at the border? as for the coyotes, you know how you stop human traffickers? you make it so people don't have to resort to using them to get somewhere safe. if we welcome these people and make it easier to come on their own, they won't need to pay smugglers to get them here.
I'm less alarmed and more cynically unsurprised. but again, the majority wanting something awful should not mean giving it to them. what would be the point in beating Trump if we only do so by implementing all his policies? is there not an option B where we CHANGE PEOPLE'S MINDS about immigration?
New York pizza is shit. in the words of Kevin James, NY pizza "looks like my ass if it caught fire and someone put it out with a wet T-shirt" straight out of the oven. when your pizza is so thin and floppy I have to fold it in half for it to have any structural integrity, your pizza sucks.
also your dough tastes weird and you don't have stuffed crust.
exactly, so why would we just concede to him on the immigration debate? point this out to people. remind them that we're talking about human beings. remind them of how horrifying his first term treatment of migrants was. and remind them of where this path leads, because we have most definitely been down this road before and it was my understanding that we did not want to go back.
