Read it again with your critical thinking hat on. The author is self-contradicting.
@JerichoTaskerDeaux I find that most sensational science "news" is garbage. If you want real science news get it from a science journal. That's where scientists publish their findings. The regular news almost always gets it wrong and they write their articles to maximize the sensationalism, the truth and the details be damned.
For example, this isn't scientific writing. You don't start with a conclusion. You see what the data tells you. This is an assumption that has not been proven.
@JerichoTaskerDeaux They don't even tell you which biological compounds were found. There are 20 amino acids essential to build life's proteins with a few more created by other processes. Glycine is the simplest at the chemical level and is commonly found in meteorites.
They probably found only Glycine. Finding anything else would be actual news.
@JerichoTaskerDeaux Furthermore, we don't know where this meteorite came from originally but at this point Earth itself has contaminated our corner of the universe. Volcanoes and other significant events routinely eject biological materials into space. This has been going on for millions of years. These ejected things can fall back to Earth after a very long time, hit the moon, or even hit Mars.
If scientists ever discover the remnants of life on Mars note that it probably came from Earth.

Scientists looks for liquid water because that's all they can see from a telescope. Liquid water is necessary but insufficient for life. In fact, liquid water is one of the most abundant compounds in the universe so it's a really bad indicator that life has been found or is possible.
Blame NASA for starting this trend of over-emphasizing liquid water. They do have to protect their funding though. 🙄
