A friend insisted to me that the skin of the kiwi fruit is fine to eat, and there is no reason to peel them.
I'm usually game, so I tried it.
I am saddened to report that it was eating a kiwi-flavored merkin.

One of the strangest co-workers I've ever known always ate his kiwis that way.
I can hardly eat an unwashed peach - too much fuzz. Kiwi? No. Just, no.
@danalan It was like eating a kiwi with someone's beard growing in it somehow. Or like not unwrapping a candy bar, and eating the paper. It felt like something one would discard, but if people like it, I'm glad it's there for them to enjoy.
