Winter Solstice
Does the Fir tree know the solstice?
Is its time continuous or discrete?
On this, the hinge of the year
When the sun begins its swing
We humans arrange the stones, marking the day
Fir trees take no notice.
They have slowed, but not stoped in their reach.
Snow has not yet bent the branch
Nor hard rain weakened the slope
They stand throughout without hope or fear.
