Agreed! I actually had the same experience with The City and The City. I started it — twice — and felt bewildered enough to move on to something else. But then I picked it as our book club choice when it was my month, because I knew that would FORCE me to finish it. At about 35% through the book, there was finally a CLICK-ZOOM moment. After that it was an exhilarating read.

It became a favorite of most of those in our reading group, including myself.

I have read most of Miéville's work. Yes many are very hard reads. And I loved City & the City. But for some reason the synopsis of this book strongly put me off.
