Any archaeology buffs here on CoSo who could give me some help with identifying this NC Indian artifact?
I found this decades ago at a construction site east of Asheville, NC. It was on an excavated hillside just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, 3'-6' below the surface.
Arrowhead? Spearpoint?

@marshalldillon Hmmmm... π€
I guess I could have just left it where it was, have it bulldozed into a level ground surface and covered with asphalt and concrete block foundations for condos...
@cjtownsend in my neighborhood, when artifacts are found, construction is halted until experts have reviewed the find. That's why reporting is critical.
Five inches is pretty large for an arrowhead.
@mcfate The top measurement is by cm, inches are just to the left of the point - 2"...
Still toward the large end. Could be either one, I suppose.
@cjtownsend looks like a scraping tool to me, but I know little.
Looks like a knife blade, but I'm no expert; you could probably get this classified at a museum.
@KyleL It also has a very smooth, waxy looking finish, which I've been told is because it was purposely heat treated - over 450 degrees, for an extended period of time...
@cjtownsend spearpoint
@cjtownsend
Spear blade.
If you want to know more, turn it in to an archaeologist. Be prepared for a scolding.
