Just spoke with a Dem friend who made an excellent point. As upset as we are about Biden’s performance in the #PresidentialDebate the party has a legit chance to offer voters an alternative at the top of the ticket. Someone who could energize voters, keep them from voting third party or not voting, and strike fear into Team MAGA. Having this happen in June provides time to embrace a new plan. Biden will be forever remembered as the man who saved our Democracy when it was most imperiled.
@cassandra17lina who is this unicorn candidate?
@Razdawg22 That’s for the party to decide the coming weeks and months. Your post seems to suggest that the Democrats have no bench, no depth, no options. What if Biden needed to withdraw from the race due to a health crisis? Wouldn’t the party find a replacement? Biden does a fantastic job of governing, but he needs to beat Trump, soundly, if he’s to continue governing. Winning the White House is vital to the continued existence of our Democracy.
@cassandra17lina I am just trying to be realistic imo. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater because of one supposedly bad performance in a shit show of a debate. The Dems surely have a plan for any type of emergency. I just think it's unreasonable to think we should drop Biden now. He beat trump before and will again, imo.
@Razdawg22 I would love to agree with you, but electability is key here. If discouraged Dems sit out the election or vote third party, our Democracy could end. In his heart of hearts, I don’t think that President Biden would want that on his conscience.
@cassandra17lina if Dems are that discouraged by this then we have already lost
@Razdawg22 I volunteer with my county Democratic Party here in North Carolina and this fear goes back far beyond the #debate last night. We’re anything but defeatists. The concerns that folks had about Biden’s electability (not his performance in office) were sadly validated last night. If Trump wins, America’s Democracy is at risk. Why not oppose him with an energetic leader who can win the support of Democrats and Independents and maybe some disenfranchised Republicans?
@cassandra17lina because that's not realistic at this point, imo. But I am just one person on the Internet.
@cassandra17lina I also don't think Biden's performance was that awful. Was it stellar, no but he attempted to act like a goddam adult and talk about the issues. Anyone suddenly enamored with trump was never voting Dem in the first place.
Jon Fetterman had some very good tweets about this debate, imo.
at this point in US history, there's the question of who will even remember this debate by the time Nov rolls around.
Not voting for person, voting for party, and it ain't Republican.
@cassandra17lina if Biden were to bow out it would have to be Harris at the head of the ticket. Anyone else would create such deserved blowback about race and equality it would likely alienate voters. The safe, default VP pick would be Pete Buttigieg; I wouldn’t want to leave any Democratic seat open. Thoughts?
I would love Pete Buttigieg for President! If not now, hopefully in 2028! 🙏💙
@cassandra17lina This argument is BS.
In the 21st century, you DON'T PUT TOGETHER A WINNING CAMPAIGN IN WEEKS.
There are no smoke-filled rooms anymore.
YOU ARE VOTING FOR THE ADMINSTRATION AS A WHOLE, NOT ONE CANDIDATE.
@cassandra17lina I don't have anything to say about the "debate" but Gavin Newsom sure is kicking up a lot of dust right now huh
