Got absolutely DRENCHED on my first dog walk of the day as #NorthCarolina gets another day of serious rain after months of drought. I’m channeling one of my favorite movies featuring young Sigourney Weaver and Mel Gibson and the incomparable Linda Hunt: The Year of Living Dangerously. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086617/
@Foxthorn Thanks… can you tell that a geologist lives here? 😂
That’s actually an engineered faux stone, but I’ll take it! The brick was sourced in North Carolina. I wanted a house that could withstand coastal hurricanes.
@cassandra17lina lol this geotechnical engineer is in love with that look. It's so cozy and earthy! I have looked into the faux stone for when it's time to replace the siding on this house. I'd even be willing to do a split look with stone on bottom and siding or something else on top, but I need some stone somewhere.
@Foxthorn You can even start small… or end up small. We had faux stone left over and look what else we built! P.S. I minored in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering and am absolutely transfixed by the complexities of the natural environment and built environment interface. Here in #NC, failure to design for subsurface conditions creates very lucrative opportunities for foundation and crawlspace retrofits. As my dad used to say, “never time to do it right, always time to do it over.”
@cassandra17lina I love how that turned out! I was already convinced that faux stone was a great idea, and you're definitely confirming it. Funny geology story...I am slightly colorblind but I didn't know it until after I had taken my geology courses. I spent three hours on a final exam staring at three different pieces of granite because I couldn't see the difference between the colors. My professor was so confused by my struggle to answer the question and later very amused.
@cassandra17lina ohhhh not to get distracted but I love the look of that stone/brick
