So birth control arm implants that last three years are a thing? Just saw an ad for them while watching Rick and Morty.
@zydecopolka @bfgreen
The nexplanon and implanon are better than the old ones. The older type were 5 rods which were often difficult to remove and seemed to encourage a lot of scar tissue. This is just one which is generally far easier to remove.
@zydecopolka I don’t watch TV much.
@bfgreen We don't have a tv, my knowledge comes from a friend's personal experience, she swore by Norplant. I didn't even know there were two different versions now ;)
@zydecopolka @bfgreen implanon came out not quite 20 years. Though there was an implanted birth control years before that but it was discontinued.
@RogueNana @bfgreen @zydecopolka Was that Norplant? I’m dating myself but I remember it being a topic of discussion on the Phil Donahue show back in the 80s.
@FabulousLVNV @zydecopolka @bfgreen Yes! Norplant couldn't think of the name. Then about 12 years ago Implanon (now nexplanon) came to the US. Different drug same use. But it actually comes out of your arm after 3 years.
@FabulousLVNV @zydecopolka @RogueNana the ad I saw was for Nexplanon.
@bfgreen yeah. My girlfriend has it. Mostly because it affects her hormonal structure way less than the pill or the other stuff.
It can be taken out at any time if you want to pursue pregnancy.
Nope. That thing will sit the full 3 years.
@bfgreen
Yep. They're going strong too. They unfortunately don't "work" for everyone. IUDs are pretty popular too, some lasting up to 10 years.
@bfgreen Wow, dude, those were a thing 20 years ago. *hug*!
