I see your Apple “smart” watch and raise you an analog classic masterpiece from 1970. Never needs charging and has no annoying alerts.

@bfgreen
Thank you. I can’t be bothered to play the game with a Rolex authorized dealer, so I doubt I’ll ever own a real one. But I love the simplicity of it and its legibility.

@mikeflstfi @bfgreen

My oldest son inherited his dad’s Rolex when he passed. Younger son is not impressed with brand names. His watch keeps him alive as it’s a very sophisticated scuba diving watch. And very expensive.

@LnzyHou
I wouldn’t turn down a Rolex if I had the chance at one. I mean I have built homages to two of their models.

@bfgreen

@LnzyHou @mikeflstfi machined manufactured, hand assembled and quality checked - I believe.

@bfgreen @LnzyHou

Correct as far as I know.

No modern manufacturers hand-make components because you can’t make enough fast enough, or ensure quality.

@LnzyHou
Mine are hand built (assembled) but I definitely use mass machine manufactured parts like movements, hands, cases, dials, etc.

My value prop is helping folks design a watch they can’t find in a store. And then making it happen.

I do try to take care when building, though.

@bfgreen

@LnzyHou @mikeflstfi makes me wonder how we better support our fellow cosonauts here through their various hobbies, stores, and projects? Do we have a community of makers or sellers in a consolidated way? I admit I have not explored communities.

@bfgreen @LnzyHou

I’m the worst marketer ever, so I just hope that anyone that is interested in what I do will hit my profile. That’s where my links are.

I want to be unobtrusive. Which might also mean unsuccessful, but it’s what makes me comfortable.

@mikeflstfi @bfgreen

Adding a link is not obtrusive. But your choice. I’ll lay off.

@LnzyHou
No harm, no foul. I appreciate you rooting for me and I think there *are* instances where I’m less uncomfortable including a link.

I’m the same way with my guitar stuff too.

I have an unrealized fear of others seeing me as someone using CoSo as a way to solely make money. And it’s not that, for me.

/@bfgreen

@mikeflstfi

Clearly not. I block folks who are only here to sell books, knitted garments, etc.

@LnzyHou @mikeflstfi I also block, on first sight, those who boil with anger.

:feather:

😜

@mikeflstfi @I do believe sharing a passion or talent is a little more then simply spam promoting. I wouldn't find it intrusive at all for an occasional link. I think it's more about the real live interaction that a person does and you have always clearly done that. So feel free to toot your own horn on occasion. ❤️ LnzyHou

@mikeflstfi I totally like your music and watch posts, and you are a strongly interactive here, not a "seller". Links would never bother me.

But, you could always add the very casual "link in bio" for music/watch posts. The ultimate passive "I have stuff elsewhere, but only if you're interested".

@LnzyHou

@kay_dub
That seems like a good compromise. Will run with that for a while.
