#PSA If you are over 50 and had #Chickenpox as a child PLEASE strongly consider getting the #Shingles #vaccine. I'm being vulnerable and sharing what happened to me so that it doesn't happen to others! #health #wellbeing

@BosmangBeratna thanks. It was 18 months ago. I have some permanent nerve damage to my eye and face which is annoying but manageable. I had no idea shingles could do this and nearly lost my eye. Hence me sharing, not for sympathy, but so others get the vaccine.
@bfgreen This happened to my mother, along with months of excruciating pain. As soon as I was eligible, I got my two shots. To be honest, I felt AWFUL after each shot. But it was NOTHING in comparison to what she described.
Of note: even if you DID NOT have the chicken pox, you need to get the vaccines. My mother never had it, but was exposed when all 3 of us got it simultaneously as kids. She thought she was safe. She wasn't.
@BlueStateBabe I can attest to the pain. I’ve broken several bones in my life but nothing compared to the nerve pain from shingles - I almost lost my eye and am left with permanent nerve damage and pain. It’s no joke!
@bfgreen I'm so sorry to hear this. I "met" another person on Twitter who has had recurring shingles problems with her eyes. And of course the stress of the pandemic, etc. only made it worse. This is something they never mentioned to even our parents back when we had chickenpox.
You poor thing. Did your vision get affected? The pain is awful. My mom got it on her temple, in her hair etc. she said more painful than birthing five children.
I had old vax which is now worthless. Got #shingrix #1 three weeks ago. CVS will alert when #2 should be taken.
I had zero reactions to Shingrix other than slight arm soreness but nothing compared to #covid boosters.
People often suffer for 4-6 months with shingles outbreak. Your warning is very powerful. Thank you.
@bfgreen Ouch, sorry that happened. I definitely got my shingles vaccines, and now I'm doubly glad I did.
@bfgreen
Supplemental: The #Shingles Vaccine is 2-dose shot. I only got 1 shot; wasn't aware I needed the 2nd shot and got Shingles anyway. It's HORRIBLE, painful & really hard to live with!
If you're on Medicare as of Jan. 1, I understand that Medicare pays the total cost of the Shingles Vaccine - but please double check as it's an expensive shot process.

@Shenango_Linda for me the two-part vaccine was 100% covered because I was eligible (over 50). Unfortunately I didn't get it until after I had shingles - but hope it will protect me from getting it again, which does happen!. I hope me sharing this lets others know how bad it is - not just the blistering but the intense and excruciating nerve pain, so they avoid it.
@bfgreen
Holy shit that looks like it was sore. Thank you, mate. 💜✌️
Hope you're well and truly mended.
