How Bad.....
Worse than that.

(I am so glad that the Democrats, who have made it clear that all that talk about authoritarianism and fascism was just some good-natured ribbing — political locker room talk if you will.)

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday confirmed he would declare a national emergency to carry out his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in the U.S. without legal permission.

truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTru

Deportation.
Is not the goal.

My fear is not that a million folks will be forced to leave the country. But that private owned "camps" will force them into, what is essentially slave labor. The shit work still needs to get done. And the government ain't paying for it. So the private prisons will hire them out, and keep the profits.

@corlin

Can't do THAT, either.

See the Korematsu-Takai Civil Liberties Protection Act of 2019.

@mcfate

Ok.
Here is the point he is going to try.

Yes. laws currently prohibit him.
But I won't hold my breath, that they will hold.

@corlin

Well, good, I guess you've found MORE cause for irrational fear, then.

Nothing matters and nothing is real, but every utterance than makes people panic is TOTALLY TRUE.

I swear, if Trump said he was going to drop the Moon on you, you'd be hoarding shovels and digging holes to hide in.

@mcfate

Thanks.
Good point.

I will refrain from any more FUD

(fear, uncertainty and doubt)

@corlin

I'd be satisfied if I weren't the one constantly having to point out. "But that's illegal!", "but that's unconstitutional!" all the time.

@corlin

What bemuses me is the selectivity of it all.

Elmo tells you that you're going to be able to take a self-driving robotaxi through the tunnel he's going to build to Mars, everyone recognizes that it's ridiculous.

Trump says he's going to round up twenty times the current population of incarcerees in the ENTIRE COUNTRY, magically construct camps to detain them all in (and Mexico will pay for it?), and then enslave them, and everyone's eyes get huge and they start screaming about it.

@mcfate @corlin I realize the numbers are totally unrealistic, but this guy already built camps, and I freely admit I'm sensitized to the whole concept of putting classes of people into detention camps. I want elected reps to understand I will overreact. I want to see a smoking crater where this subject is raised.

@b4cks4w @corlin

All I see is people in a senseless panic on a web site.

This guy built camps that hold ten thousand people, max, and they took months to construct at a cost of many millions of dollars.

There aren't enough construction workers or guards in the entire country to pull this hare-brained scheme off.

And when he tries, watch bruised apples zoom up to twelve bucks apiece and a decrepit head of lettuce cost you six dollars for lack of anyone to pick 'em.

That'll be popular.

@mcfate @corlin To me it's not senseless. Half a million people are in jail in the USA, awaiting trial and still legally innocent. Bothers me. Zoos bother me too. Targeting immigrants is, IMO stupid and evil, and I make noise about that combo every time.

@b4cks4w @corlin

Worrying about someone might do something that to all appearances cannot be accomplished is my idea of "senseless".

@mcfate @corlin I think I'm not being clear. I understand it's a stunt. But I'm not okay with them _trying_. I'm not okay with them talking it up, trying to normalize the concept.

@b4cks4w @corlin

You'll never be able to stop them from saying stupid things.

Tell me about how Trump "normalized the concept" of shooting random passersby in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue.

@mcfate @corlin We all have our windmills. Trump floods the zone and follows any idea that someone nods their head to. Lot of people nodded their heads about "illegals", so here we are

@b4cks4w @corlin

Where's "here"? All I see "here" is a bunch of loudmouths saying ridiculous things and people insisting they're not ridiculous at all, without providing any actual reason why they should be taken seriously.

Follow

@mcfate @corlin Here in the moment when Trump is elected again and talking deportation (again).
