How Bad.....
Worse than that.

(I am so glad that the Democrats, who have made it clear that all that talk about authoritarianism and fascism was just some good-natured ribbing — political locker room talk if you will.)

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday confirmed he would declare a national emergency to carry out his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in the U.S. without legal permission.

truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTru

Deportation.
Is not the goal.

My fear is not that a million folks will be forced to leave the country. But that private owned "camps" will force them into, what is essentially slave labor. The shit work still needs to get done. And the government ain't paying for it. So the private prisons will hire them out, and keep the profits.

@corlin

Can't do THAT, either.

See the Korematsu-Takai Civil Liberties Protection Act of 2019.

@mcfate

Ok.
Here is the point he is going to try.

Yes. laws currently prohibit him.
But I won't hold my breath, that they will hold.

@corlin

Well, good, I guess you've found MORE cause for irrational fear, then.

Nothing matters and nothing is real, but every utterance than makes people panic is TOTALLY TRUE.

I swear, if Trump said he was going to drop the Moon on you, you'd be hoarding shovels and digging holes to hide in.

@mcfate

Thanks.
Good point.

I will refrain from any more FUD

(fear, uncertainty and doubt)

@corlin

I'd be satisfied if I weren't the one constantly having to point out. "But that's illegal!", "but that's unconstitutional!" all the time.

@corlin

What bemuses me is the selectivity of it all.

Elmo tells you that you're going to be able to take a self-driving robotaxi through the tunnel he's going to build to Mars, everyone recognizes that it's ridiculous.

Trump says he's going to round up twenty times the current population of incarcerees in the ENTIRE COUNTRY, magically construct camps to detain them all in (and Mexico will pay for it?), and then enslave them, and everyone's eyes get huge and they start screaming about it.

@mcfate @corlin I realize the numbers are totally unrealistic, but this guy already built camps, and I freely admit I'm sensitized to the whole concept of putting classes of people into detention camps. I want elected reps to understand I will overreact. I want to see a smoking crater where this subject is raised.

@b4cks4w @corlin

All I see is people in a senseless panic on a web site.

This guy built camps that hold ten thousand people, max, and they took months to construct at a cost of many millions of dollars.

There aren't enough construction workers or guards in the entire country to pull this hare-brained scheme off.

And when he tries, watch bruised apples zoom up to twelve bucks apiece and a decrepit head of lettuce cost you six dollars for lack of anyone to pick 'em.

That'll be popular.

@b4cks4w @corlin

I suppose your elected reps understand that all that stuff is already illegal and will tell you so.

@mcfate @corlin I know they know*, I want them to publicly acknowledge it.

*mmmm, actually, some are pretty damn dumb.

@b4cks4w @corlin

You want them to publicly acknowledge that you have a bunch of unmoored worries that seem to make very little sense?

To what end?

@mcfate @corlin To counter the knuckle draggers that go along with it. DeSantis trying/failing to make his own private army to get around the restrictions. They will keep trying. I will keep trying.

@b4cks4w @corlin

The only thing I can see is people choosing to be afraid of loudmouths.

Follow

@mcfate @corlin Okay, well that's what you see, and I agree fear won't stop them. I'm not afraid of them, I'm doing what practical things I can.
