I hope actblue re-evaluates their entire m.o. because they are currently standing on my last nerve. Their over the top communication routine is, IMHO, bad enough but they've inspired copy cats, some of which are straight-up grifters. I've donated directly to the campaign is there even a reason for actblue anymore? It's like even more annoying MailChimp.
Gonna track down the contact for the CEO and give them a taste of their own medicine. #politics #USA #venting
@b4cks4w If you understand them not as a community organization intended to promote the public good through unified action, and instead look at them as if they were a giant money-sucking organization intended to gather as much wealth together to support candidates from a specific party, rather than promoting policies and values, it starts to make sense.
Just because they promise to take your money and give _some_ to a candidate you like doesn't mean you or even the candidate are their concern.
@b4cks4w When you donate through ACTBlue, you are donating to a third-party fundraising organ of a specific party, and indeed a specific _clique_ within that party.
The folks who run AB at the top also like the org to be rich and their salaries high.
They're like the children's charities in "Death to Smoochy" - or real life (*cough March of Dimes *cough).
@AskTheDevil I sort of understand that. I think/suspect at this point in time they're undermining even that purpose by being massively annoying. Also forgot to mention that they constantly prod with, "We see you've donated [x] dollars", where x isn't remotely accurate. A) Using shame, really? Bad tactics. B) If they can't keep their records straight I ain't giving them anything.
I know they did Obama a lot of good; hope they can reset.
@b4cks4w They were founded pretty much to promote Obama's campaign, which they did by pretending they weren't supporting a specific candidate.
When I participated, it was rapidly apparent they were pretending to be grassroots, but were promoting a specific agenda. The community leaders were asked to vote on issues and candidates, and then they'd tell us we voted for things we absolutely had not.
I tabulated the votes for my area, and so it was hard for them to lie to me about what we voted on.
@b4cks4w Then we'd be handed materials clearly printed weeks or further in advance, that pretended they'd been based on our input of the day or 3 before.
(I used to work in printing, too, you're not fooling me on those turnaround times)
We volunteers were there to make it _look_ grassroots, and given the illusion of voice.
And look at the money-machine today.
@AskTheDevil You've confirmed all my suspicions, thanks I hate it. Still going to hound them and the Campaign to do better.
@b4cks4w There's always grifters ready to tell you that they're here to help you with your problem and for the low, low price of (your money and time), they'll fight for you.
And our politics is almost completely composed of grift any more.
They're not making promises they intend to keep, they're making promises they know you'll want to believe badly enough to be swindled.
@b4cks4w Amen. This year has been un-freaking-bearable in terms of Dem fundraising. I have nearly developed carpal tunnel syndrome blocking every single text message and e-mail. I’ve donated to key candidates here in North Carolina and across the US, but EVERY donation gets a reply a nanosecond later asking me if I want to make it MONTHLY. No, I do NOT. My only monthly donation is to my county Democratic Party (it’s also my primary volunteer gig.) Do better, fundraising vipers.
